Business 28 - Phase 1 Improvements

Business 28 - Phase 1 Improvements

This project is located in Miami Township in northwestern Clermont County. The project begins at the intersection of Business 28 and Bypass SR 28 and ends at approximately 200 feet west of Cook Road. The proposed project improvements include widening Business 28 and the consolidation of access points along the corridor.

A five-lane boulevard section with a 6-foot sidewalk on each side of the roadway will be provided from Bypass 28 to Cinema Drive, with a 7-feet grass strip will separating the sidewalk from the road. From Cinema Drive to Cook Road, a three-lane section with a 6-foot sidewalk, located at the back of curb, will be provided.

Access points along SR 28 will be combined, removed, or relocated to minimize curb cuts and improve access management. Decorative lighting and landscaping will be used to enhance the corridor appearance. Improvements will also include utility relocation, new closed storm sewer system, and upgrades in traffic control and traffic signal(s).In addition, two (2) offset intersection conditions will be eliminated with this improvement – Menno Drive will be realigned to match Commons Drive and Orchard Lake Drive will be realigned to match Cook Road.

The proposed improvements will add many features that will enhance the future safety of the motoring public, reduce delays, and increase the overall operation of the roadway and improve the corridor appearance, without having any negative impacts on the surrounding area.

The addition of the exclusive left turn lane will reduce delays to through vehicles caused by the turning vehicles and reduce accidents related to the turning. The left turn lane will also provide a protected location for turning vehicles to wait for a gap in opposing traffic. This reduces the potential for collisions from the rear and also may encourage drivers of left turning vehicles to wait for adequate gaps in opposing traffic before turning.
